Your story begins here.
Instead of looking for the perfect pose or a single beautiful image, a storytelling photographer starts by paying attention to people, places, and everyday moments. The goal is to observe what is happening naturally and ask, “What story is unfolding here?”
I may begin by meeting the person, family, community, workplace, or journey to follow. Then, rather than trying to capture everything in one session, they spend time getting to know the subject and allowing real moments to happen.
The story can be told through more than just portraits. It may include:
-
The environment and surroundings
-
Small details that have meaning
-
Everyday routines
-
Interactions between people
-
Emotional moments
-
Challenges and successes
-
Quiet moments that might otherwise go unnoticed

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start?
Here is a simple process:
1. Think about your story
Ask yourself:
-
What part of my life or journey do I want documented?
-
Is this a story about my family, business, community, career, or personal journey?
-
Are there important moments happening over time?
-
Do I want natural, everyday moments instead of posed photographs?
For example, you might want a photographer to document:
-
Your family over several months
-
The growth of a new business
-
A child growing up
-
A community project
-
A personal achievement or life transition
-
Behind-the-scenes moments at work
-
A special journey that takes place over weeks, months, or even a year
2. Decide how long you want the story followed
A storytelling photography project can be:
-
One day — documenting an important experience or event
-
Several sessions — capturing different moments over 60–90 days
-
Long-term — following a journey over several months or up to a year
The longer the photographer follows the story, the more opportunity there is to capture genuine moments and show how the story develops.
3. Have a conversation with the photographer
You can simply say:
“I am interested in having my story documented through photography. I am not just looking for a few posed pictures. I would like to capture real, natural moments over time and create a collection of photographs that tells the story of this part of my life.”
The photographer can then work with you to develop a plan for how often to photograph, what moments to follow, and how long the project should last.
The most important thing is this: You don't need to know exactly what every photograph should look like. You simply need to know what story, journey, or part of your life you want remembered. A storytelling photographer helps discover and preserve the moments that bring that story to life.
How many edited photos will I receive?
